((Blame this fic on Rie. She asked for this specific one, and I did justice. XD)) ((And this is three or so years in the future....))
He slipped one eye open, sensing someone standing infront of him, staring at him. Four hours of sleep, since the clock on the wall read 7:30, wasn't enough to survive on. Especially since this was the second night in a row that he had slept on the couch after staying up half the night with Charlie.
"Mornin' Kayla," he mumbled, stretching out on the couch.
"Are you in trouble?"
Xian Li looked over at the five year old standing in front of him. Kayla had her head tipped to the left, dressed in a green shirt and a green shorts.
"I don't understand..."
"Aunt Alice only makes Ky sleep on the couch when he's in trouble. Are you in trouble?"
Xian Li blinked. And then he blinked again. He didn't...
Oh.
It was Kayla's turn to be confused when Xian Li's cheeks light up brighter than the firetruck Charlie rode in. He covered his face with his hands.
Xian Li fought for some control. He needed to breathe but if he breathed he would laugh until he died. The idea that he would be in trouble like that... with Charlie... Kayla saying that...
"Li?"
He took a deep breath. "I'm not in trouble."
"Then why are you sleeping on the couch?"
"Because I worked late last night. By the time I was done, Charlie was already sleeping and I didn't want to disturb him," he lied.
"So? He don't care."
The blush returned in full bloom. Xian Li eventually squeaked out "Kayla, may you please go away?"
Kayla, even though she didn't understand what was going on, went back into her bedroom as Xian Li turned over so his face was buried into his pillow.
-------- ---------
"Come on. That was funny."
"No it wasn't! Your daughter asked me why I wasn't sleeping in bed with you."
"Haven't I been asking you that lately?"
"I didn't want something like this to happen!"
"But it did anyway." Charlie grinned at Xian Li.
Xian Li pouted, turning away from Charlie, arms folded over his chest. "Go away."
He leaned over, running a hand down Xian Li's neck. "I really don't think you want me to go away, because if I do...." Charlie proceeded to whisper directly into Xian Li's ear, making the blush that had graced his cheeks for nearly an hour reappear.
"You're an ass," Xian Li whispered when Charlie finished.
"And you love me for it."
"Don't know why, though."
