Raaz pumped his wings desperately, the tendons and muscles straining in them burning. He wasn't used to flying so rapidly or quickly, and he found himself tiring quickly. He was a climber, not usually a flyer. But he followed after Kadyith as fast as he could, panting. His eyesight wasn't helping, either. His vision was blurred from the smoke and he hissed in pain.
But he perked up slightly once he saw the female dragon dive towards a free spot. The water was protecting the land from the devastating fires, and he almost smiled. The land beyond it looked so pure, untouched by the heat and flames.
Tipping his slender nose downward, he dove for the land, tucking in his transparent wings slightly. He needed to get to the water, to the nearby lake. His underbelly and neck were tingling unpleasantly, skin blackened and gray among his other brilliant, silver scales.

Kadyith reached the safe ground swiftly, tail flicking into the water as she hurried her landing, nearly catching her wings on her back talons. She quickly folded her wings in against her spine, tucking away the folds of membrane and shuffling them into a comfortable position.
She curled her tail around to her side, resting most of her weight on her back feet rather than the front pair, where her pads felt fuzzy with something that wasn't quite strong enough to be called pain. Raising her head, she looked back up at Ra' azar, hoping that he would manage to land safely. He didn't sound like he was really as alright as he claimed.
She was close enough to the water that, looking back down again, she could easily dip her head and drink. Throat dry and rough from the smoke, the young dragon promptly did so, taking a gulp of fresh water that went some way towards soothing the rough patches.

Raaz finally reached the lake, tucking in his wings so they were smooth along his back, and neatly broke the surface of the water. His body slid right into the cool lake water, barely even causing much of a splash or any noise at all. In seconds, the tip of his tail descended gracefully below the water and he was fully under.
At first, the cool water stung his burnt patches of skin, but soon the icyness out it began to numb his burnt and battered body. He treaded water for a minute or two, struggling to find the surface of the water for a moment. But then he found it, and his pointed head broke the surface, followed by his slender neck. He appeared as a serpent, the rest of his body hidden under the slightly murky water. Nostrils flaring as he gulped down air, he turned to Kadyith, eyes wide.
"Are you alright?" He asked, somewhat hurridly, paddling a little closer to her on the shore, panting.

"Yes," Kadyith said after a moment, shuffling her wings and flicking her tail a little, aware that both times she'd landed in Raaz's view, she'd managed to foul up the action.
"I'm normally much better at landing than this," she said, embarrassed, and quickly tried to change the subject.
"Is it safe to stop here?" she asked, even though she had chosen the spot. She didn't know if the fire would be able to spread to this side of the river if the wind was in the right direction or something. She'd always been warned that once a fire got out of your control, you couldn't predict what it would do next. She had been repeatedly told that fire was worse than the most fearsome predator. It ate everything without distinction.

Raaz smiled, noticing how clumsily Kadyith had landed, but not saying anything about it. But his smile broke into a cringe of pain as another wave of unpleasant bruning sensations travelled from his wounds and thoughout his body. He shook his head in annoyance at the sudden pain, scattering cool droplets of water flying from his damp diamond shaped head and horns.
"I think we're safe. The water should protect us, or at least for now. The fire looks like it isn't spreading that rapidly, and there isn't much of a wind on this side of the mountain." He sighed, swiveling his neck to turn and glance over to the mountain, his home. A plume of darkness had engulfed his former sanctuary, and the whole mountain itself was lost in a thick net of smoke.

OOC Warg, sorry for the short post.
Following Ra' azar's gaze, Kadyith flinched at the sight of the mountain, and whimpered, "We were up there."
She shuddered and looked away again, dipping her front feet into the shallows of the lake to cool them. Steadfastly keeping her eyes away from the mountainside, she watched the ripples in the water circle out from her feet, and sighed. Then she glanced back up at Raaz.
"What now?" she asked sadly.
When she'd arrived in this place, she'd been looking forward to exploring all the forests and rivers - and the mountains. But now half of it was already gone, and the other half was out of sight.

Raaz sighed heavily as he lumbered rather lazily onto shallower land, only up to about his knees in the water now. His body dripped with droplets as he unfurled his wings and held them out slightly to dry. The water was cooling to his sore, burnt body, but his stomach was still red raw.
He gingerly stepped onto the grass next to Kadyith and shook his mane slightly, turning his yellow eyes to her.
"I don't know what to do. I suppose I can stay here for now. But when that fire starts spreading again, I'll have to go somewhere else."
He looked sad as he lifted a foot, hissing slightly in pain. His feet were starting to blister painfully.

"It will spread?" Kadyith began to ask, scared, but stopped at Raaz's pained sound. That really wasn't good. Having soaked his wounds in the water, he should be alright. Maybe he hadn't been in there long enough. Whether that was true or not, being pained whenever you walked was not good. How would he be able to go somewhere safer if he couldn't move without hurting?
Worried, Kadyith let a little of her nerves out by turning in a quick, tight circle, staring at Raaz when she stopped, tail flicking from side to side rapidly.
"Are you alright?" she asked, voice rising in concern. "Honestly, honestly, are you? You have to be alright. I don't know where to go. I don't know what to do. Be alright and I'll stay with you and we can explore. Please!"
She blinked at him with a pleading, anxious expression, her tufted ears laid down flat on her head in mild distress. She liked Raaz. She didn't want her new friend to be hurt. She dreaded to think that he would be unable to take care of himself.

Raaz looked up quickly, his sharp yellow eyes wide. He smiled gently, shifting his feet in the grass to a more comfortable spot. The green blades were soft against his pained feet and the wet dew that clung to them was cool and refreshing.
"Don't worry! I'll be fine. The fire got me good, but I'll heal. Just give me some time." He said this softly, a wide smile still spread on his maw. "Don't worry; I won't leave you alone here."
He said this with a nod, his thin tail slowly swaying from side to side. He bent his neck to take a drink, the sparkling water wetting his parched, smoke- damaged throat. And all the while, his great golden eyes were on Kadyith, filled with a gentleness and understanding.

The little dragon made herself small, crouched down with her tail curled up close by her legs and her head low, ears still flat. She watched Raaz drink, blinking, and made no other movement for a few seconds. Then she slowly relaxed.
"Good," she said softly, "I don't want you to be hurt."
Apparently, with that concern out of the way, her flighty mind moved on to other things - and would dance on until she was reminded that Raaz wasn't in perfect health. She straightened up a little, then sat on the grass, forelegs in front of her, and rested her chin on the backs of her front feet.
"I'm tired," she said, but it wasn't a complaint, rather a simple statement of the way she felt. "And I'm hungry. Can we find something to eat?"
Naturally, she looked to Raaz, as an older dragon, to supply everything - including answers to the few dozen questions she was bound to start asking in a moment, as soon as she got a good look at the unfamiliar vegetation, or wildlife.

Raaz lifted his head, maw dripping with a few sparkling beads of cool water. He stretched his wings, cringing a little at the soreness of them, and turned to Kadyith, tilting his head slightly.
"Well, there's got to be some animals around here. They probably all fled from the fire and migrated to where it was safer."
He yawned after this, unable to glance at the pluming smoke in the distance that was his home, and took a few steps towards the younger dragon.
"Hmm. You eat meat, correct? Or fish? I'm sure we could catch us something. I'm feeling a little famished myself as well."

OOC Argh. Sorry I took so long to reply...
IC Kadyith visibly brightened at the prospect of food, but then ducked her head again, avoiding Raaz's eyes. Her green scales took on a faint turquoise sheen, equivalent to a blush in the little dragon. With a hint of embarrassment in her voice, she said, "I... um," and stopped.
Shuffling her feet a bit, she spoke to the ground under her talons.
"My mother always hunted for me. I... I've never caught anything. Everybody always said I was too small."
She sort of understood why, though - as well as being barely much larger than an (albeit large) shire horse, she had no overwhelming desire to kill or hunt purely for the sake of it, if she could allow others to hunt for her while she was left to play.
As seemed to be her nature, her mood abruptly switched to hopeful excitement, and she practically bounced to her feet, looking eagerly up at her new friend and saying, "Will you teach me? You will, won't you? Please? I've always wanted to be able to."

((OOC: I haven't had much experience roleplaying dragons, so please have patience with me, and tell me if I need to fix somethin' )) Assahir awoke suddenly, startled awake by something unfamiliar. Something had just fallen into her river... something big. She listened as the large being moved in the water for a few minutes and cursed her blindness underwater.
Her abilities were a blessing AND a curse really, the ability to live under water, and yet not see, and the ability to see on land, and yet her mobility was very much lowered. So she remained in blind darkness beneath the cool clean depths of the river, unnoticed by outside life, venturing out only when neccessary, which was not often. Sometimes stray villagers would come and bath or play in her waters, but as long as they did not cause much trouble, she simply let them have the peace of mind that believing you're alone brings.
It was different this time. This... thing that had invaded her river was decidedly too large for a human, and too active for anything else. She heard it move toward the shore and decided to investigate.
the river, which flowed with a mighty current stilled as she neared the top and both of her heads emerged just enough so that her filmed over eyes were above the water. The opaque green-blue film parted and she turned in a full circle, taking in all of her surroundings, the black smoke in the distance, the odor of burning flesh and wood that caused her to choke, as well as the two interlopers that spoke nearby. She turned to face the two dragons and very slowely raised one of her heads so as not to startle or threaten them. The older dragon looked especially wary and fatigued. ((OOC:, yes, I meant to say 'wary' not 'weary' just so you know it's not a typo.)) She made a splash with the water, unsure of what to say as decades under water fending for herself had left her social skills lacking.((OOC: If this is no good tell me and I'll try to re-write :3))
